The Highlands Historic Highlights
Cawdor Castle is one of the most beautiful castles in Scotland in my opinion, with a rich and interesting history both old and new – I will explain more on my tour! The nature surrounding the castle is a must see for all nature lovers – including an amazing walled garden with sculptures and the most impressive bird feeder I have ever seen – feel free to prove me wrong! Culloden Viaduct is well worth a visit, the longest masonry viaduct in Scotland, it really is a sight to behold, and I like to give visitors a range of views to ensure they get a full feel for the enormity of the place, and how much it would have taken for this construction to be built. Clava Cairns is special to me as it really takes you back in time -a real feeling of being in that time – although we will never know exactly why they were made, or what they were for, you can tell it is a place of ceremony, and it’s a very magical place to visit. Although I am not a huge fan of war, you may want to visit the battlefield at Culloden moor – maybe you had ancestors who fought in that battle, and the rich history can be explored in the visitor centre there. What has really impressed me here is that the story is told from both sides, it’s a well thought out display to represent the battle from both sides. You can also hear my take on things as part of your tour!
