West Coast - Follow The Great Glen from Loch Ness to Eilean Donan
Starting by driving up the shore of Loch Ness, you can choose to either view or visit Urquhart Castle. From there we can follow the steps of the MacDonald Clan, who made great efforts to attack this castle on a yearly basis! We continue down the Great Glen, with a stop along the way for a short walk to a waterfall, before arriving at Eilean Donan Castle, a 13th century fortified castle which sits on an island where the three lochs meet. The castle has a visitor centre, gift shop and coffee shop, and is well worth a visit. Usually this is where we stop for lunch. From here we will travel to Plockton, which I think is one of the most stunning towns on the West Coast. Here you can take a wander round this beautiful village, and take in the beauty of the area. The return journey is through stunning empty countryside, some of the Highlands most spectacular scenery, with the possibility of stopping at the Ledgowan Lodge Hotel at Achnasheen for a drink. Achnasheen is an ideal place to stop for the night if you wanted to book more than one day touring the West Coast. On the road back we can visit Rogie Falls, an amazing waterfall where you may also have the chance to see salmon jumping, at the right time of year. If you want to be adventurous, it is possible to get right next to the waterfall. We finish our day via Inverness.
